Ajman MuseumThis lovely old 18th century fortress was served as the Ruler’s palace and office until 1970, when it became the main police station and only in 1981 housed the local history and heritage museum. A symbol that reflects the region's rich heritage displays the treasures of former Rulers, interesting collection of archaeological artifacts, manuscripts, old weapons, monuments, conventional industry, presentation of social life style and the traditional profession of the past.

Ajman is noted as the world's largest boat building yard and even more as the biggest dhow building center. Here these ocean-going vessels are built using traditional tools, manual skills with the same techniques that have been handed down through the generations, all without blueprints. The yard also crafts the speedsters that take part in the Dubai Powerboat meets. The boatbuilding yard on the north side of the creek is just a few km from the city centre. This is one of the most active dhow-building yards in the country, and is well worth a visit.

The archaeological site of Mowaihat is located on the outskirts of Ajman. At the time of its discovery, the Mowaihat tomb represented the first indication of Umm Al Nar period occupation in the Northern Emirates. Subsequent work has now identified major sites of this period on the Gulf coast at Al Sufouh, Tell Abraq and Shimal. The material from Mowaihat forms the bulk of the archaeological finds on display in the Ajman Museum. In 1986, while laying a new sewage pipe, workers from the Municipality discovered a circular Umm Al Nar type tomb, 8.25m in diameter. A rescue excavation was conducted which recovered numerous examples of soft-stone and painted Umm Al Nar ceramic vessels, as well as over 3000 beads, 2 stamp seals, a number of copper implements, and the skeletal remains of several dozen individuals.

Bargain hunters could do well with a visit to the Ajman Souq renowned for its architectural splendor. The Ajman City Centre is another shopper’s destination with about 50 international and local retail line shops to cater to a diverse range of tastes.

Existing in a time between Western and Arabian cultures, Ajman is an archetype of the Arabian folklore. Known as the 'Arabian
